Hi I dropped a lens… no really

Having a 5 year old, who is slightly mischievou,s leads to all kind of mishaps. Some that make me want to scream. Recently I put my event messenger, with my  AF Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6G , down on a chair. I needed to put on my coat  then my camera which was on my blackrapid strap . I was zipping out the door , quickly grabbed the bag, and all heard was a small bang and a crack. My heart sank. My son said I’m sorry and ran off.  Turns out he was playing with the bag. When I picked up the lens, it turns out it was save by it’s UV filter (seen in the pic) , which I tend to keep on. It absorbed the impact. Some people do doubt the usefulness of filters not me. I like to keep my lenses protected.  It was my fault for not checking the bag before picked up also.  I have a replacement UV filter on the way . Mistakes happen.
